Quality Management in Health Care
The course provides basic concepts of quality in health care and approaches and skills to implement sustainable quality assurance program in the health system. The course, various quality improvement approaches (QC, QA, CQI, TQM), role of standards and norms, use of quality improve tools, methods of quality assessment and approaches to operationalise and implement quality Assurance program. Concepts of organization for quality improvement, including Quality Teams (QT) and Quality Control Circles (QCC) are explained.
By the end of the course, students will be able to appreciate importance of quality in improving effectiveness and efficiency of health services; define quality and describe its attributes/dimensions; explain relationship between patient satisfaction and utilization of services; describe approaches of Quality Improvement, QC, QA, CQI, and TQM; explain quality standards and monitoring indicators; assess quality of services using of Quality Improvement Tools; undertake problem identification and analysis and operationalization and implementation of quality improvement; describe Medical Audit; and accreditation.
